Religion was an important topic for Romans. Religion was based on Greek gods. They wanted to please their gods because Romans thought they controlled everyday life. At Roman temples and shrines, people would lend offerings such as food. Sometimes, they would sacrifice animals such as oxen, sheep, and bulls.
“Holy Days” were held throughout the year. These were to honor gods. Religion was part of daily life too. In every household had small altars for people to honor gods. During every dinner, the family would throw in a small piece of cake as an offering to Vesta, a Roman goddess.
Housing was a big part of Roman life. Housing was different for the rich and poor. The spacious homes would belong to the rich. And the small, crowded apartments were for the poor. While the rich were tended to by their slaves, the poor were having a lousy time in there small, damp apartments. In 64 B.C.E. a fire broke out that burned much of Rome.
